KINTSUGI REPAIR
During my summer 2016 internship at the Pitt Rivers Museum, I had the opportunity work on a personal project repairing a contemporary ceramic made by a local Oxford artist using the traditional Japanese art form Kintsugi. This technique uses cured lacquer and powered gold or similar colored powder to mend breaks in a way that does not hide or disguise the repair.
Vertical Loom & KNOtted Carpet
During my first semester at Buffalo I chose to make a simple vertical loom and knotted carpet for my technology project. This design is based on carpets known as tihlasine (singular tahlast), produced in the Atlas Mountains and the western region of Morocco. This carpet has 6,680 Berber knots.
IKAT DYE WEAVING
Ikat is a resist dyeing technique that binds individual threads into tight bundles that are dyed to create patterns. I used synthetic Procion MX dyes for these projects.
BOOK ARTS
In San Francisco I worked as bookbinder at a Japanese bindery called Kozo Arts. I also taught a variety of adult bookbinding workshops at CELLSpace, a non-profit community center. I worked for Pancake & Franks, a small letterpress and graphic design firm. I co-authored a how-to accordion book project that was featured in Handmade Hellos (Chronicle Books, 2008). I also worked on many independent binding and printing projects, including custom wedding invitations.
Before moving to SF, I interned at Quercus Press in Waltham, MA with master printer John Carrera. I researched, cleaned, restored, proofread, and letterpress printed sections K through M of Pictorial Webster's, which features over 1,500 original engravings from Merriam-Webster's 1859 and 1864 editions. A trade edition, Pictorial Webster's : A Visual Dictionary of Curiosities (Chronicle Books) was published in 2009. I also interned at Alembic Press, Oxford, England with master printer Claire Bolton, with whom I co-edited, letterpress printed, and bound DIG, an art book about the archeological excavation of a local Roman amphitheater.
INDIGO DYEING WORKSHOP
During my internship at the Museo Textile de Oaxaca in Mexico I participated in an indigo dyeing workshop.
DOUBLE WEAVING
This technique can have two or more warps and one or more wefts. The pink/gray sampler has two warps (dyed) and has varying weft counts and designs. The peach/white project is an investigation of a double-faced cloth with two warps and one weft.

Collapse weavING
This technique explores the different textures and types of cloth you can achieve by mixing materials, experimenting with ends per inch, and washing techniques.
Reclaimed Stadium Model Special exhibit
As a docent at Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco, I was invited to create a team to participate in the 2009 Golden Gate Express Garden Railroad exhibit. We constructed a model of AT&T Park from reclaimed and recycled materials for the annual special exhibit.
huck weaving
This lace-like weaving technique employs plain weave and warp or weft floats.
Early Weaving Projects
This pillow and structures sampler are two of my first weaving projects.
Egg Tempera Painting
First semester graduate students at Buffalo complete a traditional egg tempera painting. These are a few of the steps in the process of creating my Indian miniature inspired painting.
